What is Extended Skills and where does it fit into training

What is Extended Skills?
  • GP Registrars proceeding towards the Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) must undertake 6 months of their training in Extended Skills.
  • Extended Skills may be undertaken in a general practice setting or any other area of special interest relevant to general practice, such as hospital based posts, community based posts or academic posts.
When can Extended Skills be undertaken by GP Registrars?
  • Extended Skills in general practice can only be undertaken after the required 18 months of general practice terms has been completed.
  • Extended Skills in other settings may be undertaken at different stages of training, depending on the type of post.
